BY PHUMZILE NDLOVU
MBABANE – ‘Kumsindisi’ has always been Singer Musa Phakathi’s favourite song in the Licilongo Hym book.
These sentiments were shared by Musa Phakathi about his newly released single.
Phakathi was born and raised in Tibondzeni. He is a Christian from the Evangelical Church Mbabane and also a Human Resources (HR) practitioner by profession. He is a minister of the word of God, a public speaker, and a worshipper. This week, he dropped his single titled ‘Kumsindisi’, which was recorded live at the Zion Experience last year.
We caught up with him, and he shared with us his musical journey and when he fell in love with gospel music.
Who did you work with on the song Kumsindisi?
The song was captured during the Mount Zion experience last year. I worked with Phindokuhle Sithole on the song.
What inspired the song?
Kumsindisi has always been one of my favourite songs in the Licilongo Hym book that I started singing at a tender age. Moreover, as a Christian and a minister of the word of God, I have seen that some challenges and battles in the Christian journey do not require one to fight but to be hidden in Christ.
What’s next after this project?
Another song is coming soon, and I believe that it is going to be a blessing to music lovers in the Christian corridor. After that, we pray and hope to prepare for a live recording before the end of the year.
When did you fall in love with music?
Since my tender age. I have grown up in a Christian family that loves music, and I’ve always loved singing. My father used to ask me why I always sang people’s songs instead of writing and singing my own.
Where have you performed locally and internationally?
I have performed in different churches and gospel shows locally, including the 2023 and 2024 Mount Zion Experience hosted by my brother Sphiwo Ndoni, where I shared the stage with local and international musicians such as Takie Ndou, Scelo Moyo, Bhelekazi, and Nothando Dlamini, just to name a few.
Who is your favourite artist in the country and globally?
Locally, it is Sphiwo Ndoni, and internationally, it is William McDowell.
What can you advise anyone who wants to venture into music?
In the Christian perspective, it is important not to just do music; one needs to be first born again. Secondly, one needs to be sure that they have been called into this ministry because there are already many musicians, and if one ventures into it without being called, they might be disappointed.
Whom would you still like to work with, and why?
I believe that the standard of local musicians has greatly improved, and I appreciate working with local musicians such as Sphiwo Ndoni, Nothando Dlamini, and Bhelekazi, just to name a few, but would love to work with internationals.
After giving my life to Christ, I have had a great passion for souls won into God’s kingdom and have not only had but have been preaching Christ from primary until I have seen lives changed, demons flee, and bodies healed. This has happened through preaching the word and through praise and worship. In March 2013, God made it clear to me that my assignment is to lead nations into encounters with God; hence, it is my desire to see God take centre stage in our time and that Jesus may be famous.
