MBABANE – Kusekhaya Cycling Club has unveiled a new cycling kit, as part of its fifth anniversary.
Kusekhaya has grown from strength to strength in the last five years, as it has well over 50 individuals attached to it. The club was established in 2018; they attended the Eswatini Sport and Recreational Council Awards for the chairman’s award the following year.
In the same year, they emerged as the best cycling club. They were awarded during the Midvaal Fast One Race in South Africa (SA).
Kusekhaya also had two members of the club serving on the Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) Executive Committee.
This aided them in knowing logistics as well as preparations beforehand. Kusekhaya, over the years, has been able to enter the largest number of team entries in various local and international races.
They boast multiple podium finishes including the Inkomazi Mountain Bike (MTB), Stix MTB, Imvelo MTB and Eswatini National Road Championships, among others.
This year they also had the largest number of team entries in the Border2Border and Imvelo MTB. In the National Road Championships, they got a podium finish in the junior category through Kago Mamba.
The club also engaged in the Bidii Yetu in efforts of roadside assistance for the hand and upright cyclists when they passed through the country, cycling from Namibia to Mozambique.
Kusekhaya will also be hosting its annual Kusekhaya Lowveld Invitational Race, which is the only road race that is inclusive of all types of bicycles.
Hand cyclists ride three-wheeled bikes with one wheel in front of the rider and two behind the athlete, which is most often placed in a recumbent position in the middle of the bike.
The Invitational Race also has categories for MTB, road and fixed-gear racing, which will all take place at Mhlume in October.
Mduduzi Kaudi, the Secretary-General (SG) of Kusekhaya Cycling Club mentioned that for their fifth anniversary they launched their own kit, which is specially designed to commemorate the remarkable journey of the club.
The kit features a vibrant pattern with bold colours that exude the spirit of the club.
“Every stitch and brush stroke tells a story of the countless miles conquered; the friendships forged; and the triumphs achieved,” expressed Kaudi.
He also extended his invitation to anyone who would like to join the club, citing that it had training sessions every Monday and Thursday, which they call recovery Mondays.
He also mentioned that for longer training sessions or general team rides, those interested could also join them on weekends as they cycled to different parts of the country.
He also mentioned that as the club continued to grow, they are willing to welcome more sponsors as they are continuously growing.
