MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has extended HMCS Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini’s contract at the institution by three years.
HMCS stands for His Majesty’s Correctional Services. This is an institution that is tasked with correcting offenders to make them responsible members of society, who can make a meaningful contribution to the citizenry in many ways.
The news of the commissioner general’s contract extension was announced by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane today when he toured the Matsapha Correctional Institution. Prince Simelane was of the view that Dlamini had done a sterling job as the chief at HMCS.
Prince Simelane said under Dlamini’s leadership, improvement has been witnessed at the correctional institutions around the country. The minister also praised the government for cooperating with Dlamini and the entire HMCS in making sure that the department improved.
The minister said there were buildings that were constructed to ensure that the lives of the inmates improved so that they could live in better conditions, while they served time in prison. Prince Simelane said he was also amazed at the improved rate of food production within the institution, saying this was seen by the health appearance of the inmates.
Prince Simelane encouraged all the staff members of HMCS to continue ensuring the rights of inmates. He said in other countries, inmates were not taken care of and their stay in prison was a hellish experience. He also expressed hope that the commissioner general would continue improving the institution.
Dlamini was appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III as the first female HMCS Commissioner General on July 26, 2019 during the 13th Correctional Service Day, which was held at the Correctional Services College in Matsapha.
