It is a busy day for EBC officers today since its the last day of the registration exercise to vote in the upcoming National Elections. Since dawn thousands of emaSwati are queuing to register. As from 8am, almost all registration points within the Mbabane town had queues. In fact, people came in numbers to register- a thing which will increase the figure of registrants, and is expected to end at 5pm.
Currently, EBC has announced that 475 717 people had registered to vote by close of business on Tuesday. The commission stated that about 30 000 people registered on Tuesday only and with today being the last day, the figures might shoot up. EBC Communications Officer Mbonisi Bhembe has confirmed that 492 871 registrants were recorded before 12 noon. Initially, EBC had stated that the target was to reach over 400k registrants by last week. And that the target was 600k should be registered for this year’s Elections
This year’s Elections are set to take place in September while nominations have been scheduled for July 22, and primary Elections on August.
His Majesty the King is expected to dissolve Parliament next month.
