LIMKOKWING STUDENTS ADVISED TO START BUSINESSES

MBABANE – It is advisable for students to consider using the internet to starting businesses.

These words were said by Eswatini Positive News (EPN) Director Mbongeni Ndlela today during the study tour by 15 Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) students who are pursuing an Associate Degree in Journalism and Media Studies.

The students paid a courtesy visit to the EPN offices in Mbabane and they were led by former Times of Eswatini Journalist Khulekani Nene, who is their lecturer. During their visit, Ndlela was told by Nene that most of the students are studing what he defined as web journalism, which focused on writing stories for the internet.

Nene stated that LUCT was a TVET-inclined University, which focused on practicals more that theory. That was the reason why they decided to visit EPN, as a media house that was strictly online. The intention was to learn how the web journalism was done.

In response, Ndlela told the students that it was important for them to start their own businesses because jobs were becoming scarce, especially because if the technological explosion, which took away most jobs, rendering many people unemployed.

According to Ndlela, what was good about this whole thing was that people were now being many online and that meant there were many opportunities there. They just needed the students to look for them and make use of them.
The Director also urged the students to take their work seriously and consider a second source of income, should they be employed by existing companies.

However, he said they neede to respect their jobs, starting now by respecting themselves.

He told them that employers paid attention to characters of individuals. Therefore, it was important for them to check their social media accounts to ensure that they were clean. He said employers started by checking those accounts to see if they could employ a person or not.
