MBABANE – A top post for liSwati!
Athletics Eswatini President Zakhele Dlamini was on Sunday elected as the President of the Confederation of African Athletics Southern Region 5 (CAA-SR5).
The elections were held in Durban, South Africa as Dlamini added to the ever growing list of emaSwati in top regional and worldwide sports bodies. Former Eswatini Boxing Association President Pearl Dlamini seats in the International Boxing Association Board of Directors while incumbent boxing president Webster Lukhele seats in the African Boxing Association board.
The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association led messages of congratulation writing in their social media platforms that, “Congratulations are in order for Zakhele Dlamini who serves as Eswatini Olympics and Commonwealth Games vice President and also doubles up as Athletics Eswatini President as he scooped a top post as the new President of the Confederation of African Athletics Southern Region 5 (CAA-SR5)”.
According to a press release issued by Athletics Eswatini, Dlamini beat Zambia’s Ellias Mpondela and South Africa’s James Moloi to attain the hot seat of the athletics governing body in Southern Africa.
By virtue of being the President, Dlamini will also assume the post of being the Vice President of Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), the continental athletics governing body.
