MBABANE– A pupil from Evelyn Baring High School got second position in the High School Essay Competition.
For this achievement, Luyanda Simelane won US$1 000, which is about E19 000.
The winners were announced during the official opening of the 43rd SADC Summit in Luanda, Angola yesterday.
His Majesty King Mswati III beamed with pride when a picture of Luyanda Simelane was displayed across the 85 inch screens.
The SADC Secondary School Essay Competition is open only to secondary school students from the SADC Member States; Angola, Botswana, Union of the Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The top three prize winners receive their prizes and certificates on the margins of the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government held.
The SADC Secondary School Essay Competition was established in 1996 to recognise best students’ work in disseminating information on SADC to support the process of regional cooperation and integration in the region.
By the end of business yesterday, social media was already abuzz with congratulatory messages to Simelane.
“Thank you for hoisting the flag for our little country, we are proud of you,” said one social media user.
Another user said: “ Hip hip hooray, we are so happy and proud of you young girl,”
