The magazine was founded in 2004 and is the only magazine in South Africa that covers the hip-hop culture and also back in the day came with a fee mixtape –CD.
Over the years Hype has shown a keen interest in the hip hop movement in Eswatini and has featured the likes of M-Fourteen, Qibho Intalektual and Crax just to name a few.
This year has been positive to Oriiginelle. The star not only has been featured in Hype magazine but will also be performing at one of the biggest festivals in Eswatini, the Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival.
The excited Oriiginelle posted on her Facebook page, to share the news and joy about the feature of her song ‘Sunday’ saying “ I started buying @hypemag_sa around 2006 or 2007, and I would do so religiously…. Mostly for the mixtapes.
All I ever wanted at that time was be part of those damn mixtapes and I’d spend days fantasizing about the moment I get on there. +15years later, and we are on the damn mixtape 10 year old me would never believe this ever!!! This is for you, kiddo. Ngiyabonga @__ubereatzz.” (verbatim)
The Hype magazine explained the song as a scenic trip of melodies and ‘trippy’ percussions laced in suave lyrics and ambience that is bound to get you in your feels.
Hype also said ‘Sunday’ expresses Oriiginelle’s battle to find love and security in a relationship.
“This is the ideal song to add to your weekend therapy playlist, as you quieten down to enjoy your ‘free me’ days,” said the magazine.
