LISWATI WOMAN APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF AFRICAN UNION WGYD

MBABANE– EmaSwati are taking up space in the international space.

Prudence Ngwenya is an impeccable example, as she has been revealed as the Director of the African Union (AU) Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD).

Ngwenya was appointed this week and her official Twitter account has been flooded with congratulatory messages.

The AU Women, Gender, Development and Youth Directorate (WGYD) is responsible for leading, guiding, defending, and coordinating the AU’s efforts on gender equality, development, and promoting women’s and youth’s empowerment.

The Directorate designs programmes and projects based on the policies and frameworks adopted by AU Member States. It also oversees the development and harmonization of gender and youth policies; defines strategies for gender and youth mainstreaming within the Commission, AU organs and Member States; and supports capacity building by providing training on gender and youth policies and instruments.

The AU WGYD, through a brief statement, expressed their congratulations towards Ngwenya’s appointment.

“We would like to convey our heartfelt congratulations to our new Director Miss Prudence Ngwenya and the team is excited to thrive under your continued leadership,” read the statement.

In the meantime, United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Eswatini George Wachira also sent his heartfelt congratulations.

“Congratulations to this Daughter of the Kingdom of Eswatini and former member of the UN Family! We are proud of you and wish you well in the new role,” said Wachira.
