MBABANE – Mabhensane High School clinched a double victory in the Southern Regional Schools rugby eliminations that were held at Tambuti Sports Ground on Thursday (June 13, 2024).
The Southern Regional schools’ eliminations saw Mabhensane High School make a stunning mark on the sport, securing a gold medal in the Under-19 boys’ category and a silver medal in the Under-19 girls’ category.
There were three schools that participated in the Southern Regional schools’ eliminations. In the boy’s category, Mabhensane High emerged victorious in both games they played against Manyovu High School and Hlathikhulu High School, securing them the first place.
Mabhensane High School girls lost twice to Manyovu High School girls to settle for the silver medal. Hlathikhulu High School did not participate in the girls’ category.
Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU) Communications Manager Phumlani Gumedze highlighted on the quality of rugby in these schools.
“The level of play at these schools is quite interesting especially in the boys’ category. They have mastered the art of playing 7s rugby. With the girls, there is still a long way to go but with good coaching, we can be assured that in no time, they will also be playing good rugby.” Gumedze highlighted.
The focus shifts to the Northern Schools Regional Rugby eliminations that are set to take place on Wednesday (June 19, 2024) at Ezulwini.
