The minister said the council had been without a CEO for some time and the Board should work on introducing a new CEO in January.

He said the newly-appointed Board should address loopholes in the regulations and Act of the council.
“We are faced with numerous challenges in the construction industry and it is imperative that we address all of them,” he said. Ndwandwe also mentioned that there were a lot of employment and business opportunities in construction, he assigned the new Board to maximise efficiency to that regard.
“Construction is the springboard of the economy, it is the only sector with the widest footprint of entry level labour and widespread of artisan demand, entrepreneurship and production inputs,” he said.
The minister also mentioned that it was imperative that the council was always cognisant that there were other parties, which may influence their decision making. The new Chairman of CIC Board, Sandile Makhanya, assured the minister that the issues embedded within CIC would be addressed promptly.
Makhanya said they did not take task lightly and would make sure that they tackle each issue decisively for the sustainability of the local construction industry.
