MBABANE– The country’s dam levels have shown some improvement in the past weeks.
This is according a statement that was sent out by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy Communications Officer, Sikelela Khoza, today.
“The Lubovane dam in the Great Usuthu catchment is currently spilling at 100.44 per cent. Both Mnjoli dam and Hawane dam in Mbuluzi basin are above 95 per cent. Maguga dam has slightly increased to 91 per cent, while Luphohlo dam has slightly decreased to 54 per cent,” said Khoza.
Khoza went on to explain that the Republic of South Africa has informed the Department of Water Affairs that water (0.449 m3/s) is released from Morgenstond dam upstream of the Ngwempisi River.
“Hence, more water is expected to flow into the Ngwempisi River from now onwards. The Public is urged to be very cautious of the increased flows in the Ngwempisi River.
“Furthermore the public is urged to be vigilant of the increase in water flows in all the major rivers of the country. Hence the ministry encourages the public to cross the major rivers through bridges and other safety river crossings (bo tebetebe) to avoid being swept by the floods,” said the communication officer.
Khoza then said the ministry would continue to monitor and inform the public on the water situations in the rivers and major dams in the country.
