MBABANE – Malkerns Town Board has embarked on a process of replacing Minister of Housing and Urban Development Apollo Maphalala.
Minister Maphalala has been occupying the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Malkerns Town Council. The recruitment is done by a company known as AMRS, which is also looking for Town Planning Officer. This means Malkerns Town Council has two vacancies now, including the one formerly occupied by the Minister. The deadline for applying for these jobs is Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 4pm.
The Town Clerk/Chief Executive Officer, according to the Town Council, will be expected to lead a multi-disciplinary team, coordinate and implement the town’s programs to achieve optimal efficacy and efficiency in service delivery for Malkerns Town Council.
The Town Clerk/Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for the following Key Performance Areas such as strategic management, operations management, and organisational leadership. Regarding the Town Planning position, The Council seeks to engage a professional with an excelled strategic and visionary capacity with the ability to provide sound technical and administrative competencies to uphold the mission, vision and goals of the municipality.
The ideal candidate must exhibit keen interest in infrastructural and natural environments as well as an appreciation of the inputs required to balance the demands of housing, industrial development, agriculture, recreation, transport and the environment. Maphalala has occupied this position, after having been appointed as Nhlangano Town Council CEO in 2013. Before occupying the CEO position at Nhlangano, Maphalala was a CEO for the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee. The Minister has been a CEO for Pigg’s Peak Town Council before occupying the CEO position at the Local Organising Committee.
In September last year, Maphalala won the national elections under Kukhanyeni Constituency, replacing former MP Vincent Malavi Sihlongonyane. In November last year, Maphalala was appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III to be Minister for Housing and Urban Development, a position that was held by Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane.
