Mankayane High School walked away with E15 000 at the Third Annual Premier Future Foodies Market day held at Kwaluseni campus on Saturday (4 May 2024).
The Market Day signals the end of the Future Foodies Holiday Camps, which is a programme aimed at tackling youth unemployment, presented by Premier Eswatini, in partnership with Junior Achievement Eswatini (JAE).
According to the statement by the Premier Eswatini and JA, the initiative imparts entrepreneurial skills to Form Three and Four learners, teaching them how to become culinary entrepreneurs through a series of two-day workshops.
Learners from 30 participating schools showcased their food products, applying the knowledge they gained during the camps. The top three schools were Mankayane, with the second place winners being St Paul’s High School, which took E5 000. St Paul’s was followed by Matsetsa Nazarene, which won E2 500.
Premier Eswatini Marketing Manager Mfundo Dlamini said that the programme was a success, as this was their third market day and 1 540 learners were reached through their roadshow.
“It is clear that young people in Eswatini are enthusiastic about launching their own businesses,” Dlamini said.
JAE Executive Director Phetsile Masilela also highlighted that as JAE they have ensured that new schools participated in this round of competition, so that the impact would spread across many schools.
