MANZINI– It takes a village to raise a child.

Residents in Manzini consisting of Teachers, Security personnel and Vendors, have teamed up to search for the mother of a newly born girl.

This comes after the residents found the newly-born dumped in a small shrub outside Mjingo High School. The discovery was made on Sunday morning and suspicions are that the baby was dumped by her mother.

Sihle Mavuso one of the searchers, said they are looking for relatives of the baby or at least the mother whom they suspect dumped the baby.

“It is grace, anything could have happened to the child as she was left for death in the thin of the night”, she said.

In addition, Mavuso stated that the reason they teamed up as residents is to try and find help for the innocent baby.

A Security guard, who is also part of the search, said so far there were still no leads of the baby’s family but the Police are working with the community to break the case.

“We have spoken to almost all media houses and further posted on Facebook for help. We hope to find the mother of the baby as the child deserves a family too,” he said.

It is said the baby was found on Sunday night and this was after people were drawn to the shrub by her cries. It is said she was found wrapped in her receiver.

Witnesses have stated that the baby girl was wearing a white onesie with silver stars and wrapped in a pink baby receiver.

Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni confirmed the incident. Mnguni said the baby was immediately taken to the hospital and that her parents are still unknown. She further requested members of the public who might have information of the baby’s mother to call or tip the Police.
