MBABANE – Indalo Eswatini together with Eswatini Environmental Authority has trained Emaswati from Maphungwane on biosphere reserve and waste management.

This happened in Maphungwane Sport Ground last weekend.

Belusile Mhlanga from Eswatini Environmental Authority implored residents to carry their own reusable bags when going for shopping and avoid using plastic bags.

“Plastic produces poisonous and dangerous chemicals when exposed and gets heated by the sun, which then pollutes the air”, she said.

She also advised residents to avoid sun rays which destroy the skin.

“I would like to urge women to stop using whitening creams because they kills the melanin which protects the skin from the sun rays thus causing skin cancer”, said Mhlanga.

Indalo Eswatini’s Nomsa Mabila presented on the importance of conserving and co-existing with the environment.

She explained that biosphere include the environment, the people living in it and their culture.

“We need trees for oxygen, we need clean water to drink and we need soil for growing crops and building houses hence we need to be careful not to damage all the mentioned resources,” she said.

The residents were also awarded prizes for answering questions about the Lubombo Biosphere Reserve. The prizes include sugar, t-shirts and many others.
