LOBAMBA – The women who participate in agripreneurship in Elangeni have been given a boost in terms of the ability to create and capture value in agriculture as a business. The training is provided by the Marydee Foundation.
Phumelele Lokotfwako, a member of the Langeni cooperative expressed that “what we like a lot about this training is that it teaches us to use what we already have – for example to protect our produce from pests and disease using household available items. We find these methods to be cheaper for us as women. For example, using garlic you crush yourself to spray crops for pests is cheaper than using expensive manufactured chemicals.”
Founder of the Marydee Foundation Dudu Dube expressed that “what we wish and hope for the women of Elangeni is that they grow in agri-business. We also request from the public to help us. We wish to continue what we’ve done in Nshakabili, Sibuyeni and Ekudzeni – which was making sure we installed fencing and water for them through a grant from the US embassy. We can see that the women here are also very motivated to work and grow in the agriculture business so we want to do the same for them. So we request anyone or businesses that can help with fences and irrigation so that they can get high yields”.
The training covered value creation as well value addition to help women make more returns from their investments in Agriculture.
