COUNCIL KICKS OFF CIVIC EDUCATION
- Council will conduct civic education at Sandla, Eveni, Fonteyn, and Pine Valley this week.
MBABANE – Council has kicked off civic education for the local government elections.
Council officials oversaw the process at Makholokholo where residents packed the Council facility to learn about the importance of participating in the local government elections.
Council is conducting civic education across all the 12 wards to sensitise and empower voters to make good decisions in their choice of the next group of Councillors that will represent voters’ interests at Council.
Part of the education included details of the new ward boundaries that residents are expected to use in the registration process for the local government elections. The Council team will hold meetings at Eveni, Sandla, Fonteyn, and Pine Valley.
40 MBABANE YOUTHSDISCUSS GBV CAUSES
MBABANE – Council has trained 40 youths from the 12 wards on how the city plans to end gender-based violence.
The topics that were covered included understanding the cause of GBV, the various GBV settings, the role of youth in ending GBV at community level, mental health, HIV prevention, and behavioural change. The one-day training was facilitated by Kwakha Indvodza.
FAST TRACK STEERING COMMITTEE HOLDS INAUGURAL MEETING
MBABANE – Council has held the inaugural meeting for the Fast Track Cities Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee is made up of different professionals in the field. The different committee members gave progress reports on the HIV situation in Mbabane and behavioural patterns that are behind the rise in new infections.
One of the most eye-opening presentations was made by NERCHA representatives that showed Mbabane East and West as the emerging hotspots of new HIV infections. Present at the committee’s first meeting today were representatives from UNAIDS, NERCHA, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Housing, Private Practitioners, and others.
COUNCIL CONDUCTS HEALTH EDUCATION FOOD VENDORS
MBABANE – Council has trained the food vendors to sensitise them about food safety at the Mbabane main market.
The purpose of the campaign is to capacitate market food vendors on hygiene principles (personal hygiene, importance of hand washing, and proper food handling), cleaning of stalls/equipment, food waste segregation as well as the Municipal Council of Mbabane Waste Management Bylaw 2022.
A total of twenty food handlers were reached through the campaign. This will ensure the improvement in food handling during preparation, improvement in the quality of food served, and clean market that will keep Mbabane residents safe from food-borne diseases.
