MBABANE – After they were crowned champions of the 2023/ 24 MTN Premier League, Mbabane Swallows have confirmed that they will be taking part in the CAF Championships League.
They send the correspondent to the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) who will then register them with the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF). Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya confirmed on Tuesday that they will be competing in the biggest football tournament in the African continent.
Swallows won the MTN Premier League after the 1-0 win over Ezulwini United last Saturday at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre. By being virtue of winning the MTN League, they qualify to play in the CAF Champions League while Green Mamba who are the Ingwenyama Cup champions will be playing in the CAF Confederations Cup.
“It’s a dream come true for the club. After winning the league, we then confirm with EFA that we would be taking part in the CAF Champions. Last week before we were crowned champions we made them aware that we will be interested in taking part in the tournament. Now it’s done and we can confirm that we would be playing in the CAF Champions League,” he said.
Swallows is set to be against the biggest teams in the continent including South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns who are the DStv Premiership champions.
Ngwenya said they will start the preparations soon after finishing the season as they will face Young Buffaloes in their last game of the season this weekend.
Mbabane Swallows are the only club in the country to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League while Royal Leopard made it to the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.
