… Milling Hotspurs’ Bandile Shongwe gets MTN NFD gong

SOCCER – Green Mamba midfielder and captain Mcolisi Mkhonto is the MTN Premier League January Player of the Month.
The former Sihlangu and Malanti Chiefs star was awarded on Thursday at Sigwaca House, banking E6 000 in the process.
The presentation was done by MTN Brand and Communications Manager Lando Dlamini, Premier League of Eswatini Chief Operations Officer Pat Vilakati and Lindelwa ‘Malindi’ Dlamini.
Milling Hotspurs sharpshooter Bandile Shongwe was crown the MTN National First Division best player, pocketing E2 000.
“I thank God for the talent and letting me showcase it in the stadiums. I thank my coaches and teammates for the support and I promise to continue working hard and lift as many trophies as a player,” Mkhonto said.
Green Mamba are currently second on the MTN Premier League log standings and the midfielder said that was down to good business in the transfer window. Green Mamba signed Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa from Mbabane Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers captain Mthunzi Motsa and the duo of goalkeepers Lindokuhle Manda and Xolani ‘Xoxo’ Gama from Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and Malanti Chiefs among other signings at the beginning of the season.
The new players arrived with a winning mentality and added competition among starting places. As a team, we have also picked up form at the right time, which is the start of the second round and we will surely compete for honours,” he said.
Shongwe on the other hand said he was happy to finally win his first MTN monthly gong and lauded his teammates for the massive support.
“The reason I won this award is because I have been working hard both at training and during games,” he said.
