MBABANE – Even though the country continued to experience Covid-19 supply chains constraints and experienced unforeseen social unrests in 2021, Microprojects managed to complete all of its capital projects for the health sector in 2021.
The Microprojects Programme Coordinating Unit empowers rural communities to develop themselves through infrastructure projects. The MPP’s operations are sustained under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development since 2007.
In 2020-2021, the MPP implemented projects which benefitted 83,500 people in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. This involved the construction and refurbishment of 15 health centres. Major Major health projects include Mbabane Government Hospital, Lubombo Referral Hospital, construction of 11 Clinics and rehabilitation works of 4 government hospitals. The MPP Unit spent a total of E195,530,042.56 on the health sector projects last year.
This was revealed during a report made by the MPP Unit at the recent Cabinet retreat to strategize for the year.
In 2022, the MPP Unit continues to develop projects based on priorities. The prioritised capital development projects are bridges, footbridges, gravel road concreting, water supply, sanitation, agriculture (dip tanks/VET offices/grazing schemes), community centres, rural electrification, health, education, requests from ministries (capital projects), regional development fund (RDF Projects).
