MBABANE – The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo yesterday toured Macsteel (former Steel and Wire International) in Matsapha.
The company, which has its footprint in Europe, South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, Angola, Malawi, Ghana and Zambia currently, employs 93 permanent employees and seven temporary employees.
Khumalo said, as His Majesty’s Government, they promote an export-oriented private sector and it pleased him to share that this company started exporting wire-related products to Mozambique and is in the process of commencing exports of similar products to the Republic of South Africa.
“The raw materials, except steel, used in the manufacturing of their products are locally sourced hence significantly contributing to value addition of local materials.”
“It delights me to share that the Government is currently in the process of enacting a Citizen Economic Empowerment Bill which has currently been passed in Parliament. It is my unwavering belief that the legislation will indeed benefit enterprises such as Macsteel that we are visiting today,” said Khumalo.
The Minister further said the Government of Eswatini has commenced with the engagements of the State Business Relations (SBR) which aims at strengthening public-private dialogue on ease of doing business and MSME competitiveness. “Representatives of business and Government will participate in this forum through core groups and make recommendations on the improvements of business operations,” he said.
