MBABANE – Another achievement on rehabilitation of land that suffered degradation has been recorded.
In fact, Minister of Tourism Moses Vilakati has today inspected Nhletjeni Donga rehabilitation project at Nkhungwini in the Shiselweni region.
The project, funded to the tune of E100 000, is one of 11 funded by government through Eswatini Environment Authority and supported by ESWADE.
“We aim to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality in line with our commitment to Multilateral Environmental Agreements to ensure that the amount and quality of land resources necessary to support the ecosystem and enhance food security remain stable or increase,” the minister said.
He said afforestation and tree planting are also important aspects of land rehabilitation efforts, which also constitutes an integral part of ecosystem restoration.
“It is also worth noting that halting deforestation is vital to mitigating the impact of climate change, one of the biggest challenges of our time, by helping cutting Green House Gas Emissions coming from the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use sector,” he said.
