MBABANE – More relationships are being strengthened on the side-lines of the UNFCCC #COP27.
UNFCCC is the acronym for United Nations Framework Convention of Climatic Change. The convention is currently taking place at Sharm el-Sheik in Egypt.
Led by the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Moses Vilakati, the Eswatini delegation met with NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) Partnership’s Country Engagement Director Mariana Panuncio-Feldman and John Heermans, Senior Country Engagement Specialist.
Confirming this was Eswatini NDC Coordinator Dr Deepa Pullanikkatil, who said they had provided updates on progress.
“We provided updates on progress of NDC implementation plan development, the support that Eswatini is receiving through NDC Partnership Action Fund and received information on new support for Long Term Low Emissions Development Strategy (LT LEDS) as well as for NDC Investment Plan Development,” said the NDC Coordinator.
She disclosed that the country was given an action plan of US$450 000 (E7.7 million).
The Minister of Tourism of Environmental Affairs held a side event with the International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD). The theme of the event was ‘Adaptation and Agriculture Day’ and the minister was part of the panel discussing ‘Greening the Drylands in Africa’.
Vilakati mainly discussed ESWADE (Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise) projects and how simple interventions of planting trees and supporting farmers in irrigation and climate smart agriculture would enhance livelihoods.
