MBABANE- Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, today relaunched and handed over a Hlathikhulu factory that was destroyed during the June 2021 unrest.

The reconstruction of the factory was made possible through the Reconstruction Fund, and it has now been handed over to Jendas Group, a renowned textile manufacturing company from RSA.

According to Eswatini Government, Jendas Group, with an initial investment of E10 Million, has been in business for over 30 years and is expected to employ 400 emaSwati in its initial phase.

Minister Khumalo expressed his optimism about the company’s growth. “These figures are expected to grow as the company continues to operate in the country. This company will have a positive impact on the economy of the town,” he said.

Addressing the audience, Minister Khumalo highlighted the government’s dedication to the reconstruction efforts. “Many of you are aware that we have been working hard over the past year in the reconstruction of a number of structures, and it is exciting to be able to get to where we are today and be ready to move forward with Jendas Group. We are grateful for His Majesty’s vision and leadership on the Reconstruction Fund and the support from His Government,” He said.

Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of decentralization. “As Government, we welcome Jendas Group in Hlathikulu. Having a factory here is part of the Government’s decentralization initiative of having factory shells at different parts of the country where workers will have to travel short distances from their respective homes to work,” he stated.

He also expressed confidence in the positive impact the factory will have on the area.

“We believe very strongly that Eswatini possesses a set of advantages in the region that justifies locating your manufacturing operation with the aim of supplying the region. EIPA and the Ministry will support your company in any way possible to make the environment conducive,” he added.

This relaunch and handover ceremony marks a significant milestone in Eswatini’s reconstruction efforts and highlights the government’s commitment to revitalizing the economy and creating employment opportunities for its people.
