MINISTER URGES YOUTH TO START BUSINESSES

MBABANE – Eswatini youth has been urged to embrace entrepreneurial spirit so that the country’s economy can be improved.

This was said by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, when he officiated at the launch of the MTN Grand Hustler, held at the Royal Villas in Ezulwini last Thursday.

It is said the MTN Grand Hustler initiative seeks to provide capital support to youth in business.

The minister stated that the innovative concept that aims to provide viable young businesses with the much-needed start-up capital through Angel Investor Funding. This, in turn, will not only develop but sustain these businesses, paving the way for the expansion and competitiveness of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

According to the minister, this integrated approach will be a critical factor in youth enterprise development, enabling MSMEs to capitalise on their potential and fully participate in industrial development, thereby ensuring that they remain competitive in the global arena.

He expressed his deep admiration to MTN Eswatini for their bold and pioneering into uncharted territory with this unique initiative. He emphasised that MTN’s visionary mindset and unwavering commitment to youth development are highly commendable, setting an inspiring example for others to follow. Furthermore, he urged the youth in Eswatini to actively engage in entrepreneurial activities in their communities, which will provide them access to the funding and assistance available to them.

Minister Khumalo closed his address by extending his warmest congratulations to all the participants of the entrepreneurship program for their dedication and perseverance throughout the course. He highlighted the invaluable skills that they have gained, emphasising the potential for these skills to drive significant growth in their respective businesses and industries.

He reminded them to seize this opportunity for their own self-development and the betterment of their families, underscoring the positive impact of their success on the broader community.  Khumalo urged all stakeholders in youth economic empowerment to persist in fostering an environment that encourages entrepreneurship and unlocks the boundless potential of the nation’s youth.
