MBABANE – The Acting Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Moses Vilakati, says that the Kingdom of Eswatini has implemented a lot of development programs towards achieving Africa’s Agenda 2063.

Minister Vilakati has been speaking today when presenting evaluation of the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063 first 10-year implementation plan. The event was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mbabane.

Eswatini became a signatory to the AU’s Agenda 2063 in 2013. Minister Vilakati revealed that one of the achievements by Eswatini has been the increase in the availability of safe water to drink nationwide from 72% in 2013 to 76% in 2017.

Speaking during the presentation, Minister Vilakati revealed that, “The first thing that makes us happy is that our country has demonstrated growth in intra-Africa Trade – going from 8.3% in 2013 to 18% in 2020. Another issue we addressed as part of Agenda 2063 is Rural Electrification – which went from 69% in 2013 to 78% today. This shows that we’re developing and cooperating with Africa to move forward.”

Echoing the Minister’s words, UNDP Economic Advisor Souleman Boukar remarked that the UNDP will continue to support Eswatini in these programmes as it gives the country a chance to grow.
