According to Minister of ICT Princess Sikhanyiso, the lack of access limits people’s ability to participate in the digital economy, access online education, and engage in online social and civic activities.

Regrettably, this impedes innovation and entrepreneurship, as businesses struggle to afford the high costs associated with online business transactions.

“It is with great pride that, in this Financial Year, ICTs have had a transformative impact on Government service delivery. The Ministry, in collaboration with several Government Ministries made significant strides in extending electronic payment platforms to the citizens for service,” said the Minister.

The services that were extended are travel documents, civil registration (birth, marriage and death certificates), identity documents, and renewal of motor vehicle license discs through the mobile money platform.

In addition, Minister Skhanyiso said in an effort to bridge the digital divide, through the Universal Access and Service Fund (UASF) administered by ESCCOM, the Ministry handed over 30 specialised wheelchairs and 30 tablets loaded with software for children with special needs. “The Ministry has extended wireless network coverage to remote Government Service Centres in 20 sites across the Kingdom. These include: Tinkhundla Centres, parliament, clinics, and revenue service centres, the Royal Eswatini Police Stations, and Immigration Offices,” said the Minister.
