MBABANE – Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Jabulani Mabuza has today presided over the Eswatini National Water, Energy, and Food Nexus Dialogue.
According to a statement from official Government media, the dialogue falls under Phase II of the SADC Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus Project, facilitated by the Global WaterPartnership Southern Africa, which seeks to create an integrated Nexus approach to meet rising water, energy, and food security demands in the context of climate change.
Speaking during the dialogue, Minister Mabuza emphasized that “Government’s expression of the high level of commitment in improving the livelihood of the people of Eswatini is reflected by the effort and value of investments in the water energy and food sectors.”
SADC Secretariat Rep Duncan David Samikwa also echoed Minister Mabuza’s sentiments on water, energy, and Food security. “Water, energy and food security are key priority areas in the SADC region. Integrated planning of water, food and energy sectors and promoting regional cooperation have been considered by SADC as strategies to meet water, energy and food security targets and to improve natural resource use efficiencies in the region,” revealed Samikwa.
Minister Mabuza also emphasized that Government gives high priority to the water, energy and food (WEF) sectors “mainly due to their relevance in the achievement of sustainable development and economic upliftment.”
