Motorists and other road users should be careful when driving around Ngonini in the Northern Hhohho Region, as there is road failure, which can be fatal if not noticed.
As a result of this failure, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has taken it upon itself to alert members of the public, particularly the road users that they needed to drive carefully when reaching that area, to avoid potential accidents.
“The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MoPWT) wishes to notify motorists and other road users that there is a road failure at Ngonini, along the Motshane-Matsamo (MR1) road,” said part of a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport Principal Secretary (PS) Thulani Mkhaliphi.
According to Mkhaliphi, the road failure had been caused by the excessive rains that the country had been receiving recently. As a result, the works ministry has constructed a detour road, with an intention of diverting the traffic away from the affected section of the road. In the meantime, the reconstruction works in the affected area will also take place.
This is done to avoid the danger that road failure poses to motorists and other road users. Traffic on this road will be diverted as of today (January 19, 2024) in order to commence the construction of the road. The works ministry, according to Mkhaliphi, expects that the reconstruction will be completed no later than February 23, 2024, if the weather permits.
