LOBAMBA – The road from Motshane to Sigangeni, via Kupheleni is of poor quality.
This was said by Motshane MP Wilton Nkambule yesterday during the 2023/24 annual performance debate of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport which took place in the House of Assembly. Nkambule said the 6.5 kilometre stretch of the paved road was of poor quality.
The Legislator suspected that maybe the people from his constituency did something bad to the officials from the Ministry. “I once attended a community meeting at Kupheleni and they asked me to express apology on their behalf to the Ministry’s officials. If we did anything wrong, we apologise because at the end, we have to work with them,” Nkambule said.
He said road was sealed with one layer of the chemical soil stabiliser, which is commonly known as probase. According to Nkambule, that was problematic because sometimes cows would be driven on the roads by herdboys. If the cows happened to defecate on the road, the cow dung would cause potholes on the road. He was not sure if it was the cow dung or the chemicals of the soil stabiliser that caused the potholes on the road.
Nkambule said what was even worse was that the people of Kupheleni did not have a clinic within their chiefdom. They had to go to Sigangeni when they wanted services of a clinic. He pleaded with the Ministry to ensure that the Motshane-Sigangeni road was finished sooner. Nkambule told the officials that the road from Siphocosini to Sigangeni was of better quality than the one he talked about. He pleaded for the same quality of the roads.
