MBABANE – Mhlangatane Member of Parliament Madala Mhlanga is the new Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly of the Kingdom of Eswatini Parliament.
Mhlanga, who is serving his first term in parliament after winning elections in 2018, emerged to be a favorite candidate for the post when MPs cast their votes this afternoon. Mhlanga got 34 votes beating Manzini South MP Thandi Nxumalo and Khubutha MP Mlamuli Mabuza. MP Nxumalo got 16 votes while Mabuza got 13.
The results mean Mhlanga replaces Matsanjeni North MP Phila Buthelezi who was recently appointed Minister of Labour and Social Security.
