MBABANE – Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer Mvuselelo Fakudze is the new chairperson of the Bankers Association of Eswatini (BAE).
This comes after Fakudze was appointed yesterday to take over as the leader of the country’s umbrella body for banking financial institutions in the country.
Fakudze takes over the reins from Mbali Sibanyoni, the Managing Director of Swaziland Building Society. The news was announced yesterday.
Fakudze will be overseeing the meetings and activities of the BAE, which was established in 2006. As the new chairperson, he will be presiding over the association as it carries out it’s mandate. This includes promoting fair, proper and orderly conditions in the operation of the banking industry consistent with competitive conditions in the industry, providing a forum for consideration of matters of policy and mutual interest concerning members.
The BAE also liaises as necessary with all authorities including Government , the Central Bank of Eswatini, other Financial Institutions, Public Bodies, Authorities and Officials, Press and the general public to further the objects of the Association and convey to them views of the Association on matters affecting the activities of the banking industry
The umbrella body of businesses in the country, Business Eswatini, released an official statement congratulating the chairperson.
“We wish you all the best as you assume the duties of your new role,” read the statement from Business Eswatini.
The Junior Achievement Eswatini also released an official statement congratulating the influential CEO on his new set of responsibilities.
“The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Junior Achievement Eswatini would like to congratulate Mvuselelo Fakudze on his appointment as the new Chairperson of the Eswatini Bankers Association,” read the JA statement. Fakudze brings a wealth of experience to the position. He has been the CEO of Standard Bank Eswatini since December 2016, having served for 14 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) in Eswatini. He is a qualified chartered accountant with over two decades of experience, and he has also worked for four years at ABSA/Barclays in South Africa.
