MBABANE– After much speculation, Premier League outfit Nsingizini Hotspurs have unveiled highly decorated former Malawi senior football national team coach Meck Mwase.

The Malawian strategist replaces countryman Gerald Phiri Senior who parted ways amicably with the ambitious Shiselweni-based side last week. Mwase who famously led Malawi to the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals joins Nsingizni on a two-year deal.

“Football world over is about statistics and numbers. After closely reviewing the club’s performance from early December, we discovered that we played nine games; winning one, drawing three and losing five. The numbers showed a downward spiral hence the review and changes in the technical team,” said Mthokozisi Ngobe, Nsingizini’s Finance Director and Management Committee Chairman at a press briefing held at Equinox Restaurant on Thursday morning.

“We had a vigorous interview process and Mwase (Meck) topped. His previous experience in Eswatini football while with Highlanders and his international experience where he led Malawi to the AFCON qualifiers were the many points that won him the job. We have brought him in to improve the club’s results,” Ngobe said.

He added that Mwase finds a balanced team and that the club will support him with all possible resources.

“He (Mwase) joins us on a two years contract and all paper work has been signed and sealed.”

Ngobe also thanked the leadership of club president Derrick Shiba and his board down to the management committee and supporters for the vision and professionalism they are showing as a club. “We thank Gerald Phiri-led technical for their magnificent input since the beginning the season. We saw good results under them in the first round, finishing within the top four brackets and winning the inaugural MoMo Cup. Despite that it was his first time coaching in Eswatini, Phiri showed high levels,” Ngobe concluded.
