MBABANE – The Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) is taking steps to protect Eswatini’s heritage in the case of natural disasters.

Yesterday, the Ministry of ICT held a consultation workshop at the Happy Valley Hotel to develop the Disaster Management Plan for the Eswatini National Archives at Lobamba. Speaking to Eswatini TV about the development, the representative of the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of ICT, Acting Undersecretary Jonathan Dlamini, said that they were taking steps to protect some of the country’s history from natural disasters caused by the climate, or any sporadic fires that may happen as has been the case with some public institution buildings.

“We live in serious times, as we see unexpected fires and storms, and there is just a lot that makes us act with an urgency which could make us lose our history which is stored in the National Archives. We have invited different stakeholders to help us develop the Disaster Management Plan, to help us preserve and protect our heritage,” said Dlamini. According to their website, the Eswatini National Archives promotes National identity, protects the personnel and public rights of Emaswati; promotes efficiency, accountability, and transparency of government through the preservation of public records of research value, regardless of format and historical information on Eswatini, for use in the government and by the people of Eswatini.
