MBABANE – Eswatini is only three days away from the fast approaching Black Friday specials which will be in all the shops the country has.

According to Oxford Dictionaries, Black Friday is a day after Thanksgiving, and is regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season, on which retailers make many special offers.

Black Friday will start on November 25 to November 27, 2022.

As the shopping frenzy is about to begin, Eswatini Positive News brings an insight on how to curb overspending during Black Friday.

An economist from Eswatini, who commented anonymously, said the two-day frenzy was only a way of making people spend unnecessarily.

“Black Friday only promotes over spending and a no budget day. If you want to have money to spend on Christmas shopping, you need to budget. People end up spending all their salaries because of ‘cheaper prices’.

“Sometimes, the prices were not really cheaper if you looked closely because most of the deals are made in combos so it seems cheaper when in actual fact it is not.

“People may become short sighted during the frenzy and end up overspending and buying things they do not need. It is important to budget and never spend beyond what you have set aside for yourself,” said the economist.

On the other hand, there is a light-hearted festive flair in the air as shops in the different malls and complexes are adjusting their prizes for Black Friday and the Festive Season at large.

One of the shopping centres preparing for the big two-day shopping-filled weekend is Swazi Plaza Properties, which is promising to bring deals from 20 per cent to 50 per cent off prices.

Swazi Plaza Properties Communications and Marketing Officer Thembela Dlamini said that they were always consistent in giving emaSwati value for less and this year was no different.

“Our shopping complex has many deals in all stores and we know that the excitement of a good deal brings people together. This is the time to get yourself items you have been longing for with theses cheaper deals,” said Dlamini.

The communications and marketing officer marketing further urged caution to shoppers to be mindful of their movements as they gathered and try to tread carefully especially with children in crowds.
