MBABANE – Pupils have to go to their respective schools if they want to know how they performed during their examinations last year.

This will be the case because the Examinations Council of Eswatini (ECESWA) has announced that SMSs would not be used this year to find out how the pupils performed in their examinations. ECESWA Registrar Dr Mandla Dlamini said they took this decision based on the wishes of their stakeholders.

According to Dr Dlamini, some of the stakeholders were head teachers from the schools around the country. The head teachers voiced concerns that pupils had a tendency of not fetching their symbols from their schools upon learning how they performed through the SMSs.

The Registrar said the suspension of the SMS services was meant to encourage the pupils to go and fetch their symbols so that they could get the whole picture of how they performed. Dr Dlamini said the discussions concerning the SMS facility were on-going, with the view of finding solutions on how to enable pupils to fetch their symbols, while the SMS also remained available.

He said the results were ready at the ECESWA Head Offices in Ezulwini and it was up to the head teachers to fetch them to enable their pupils to access the results.
