MBANANE– It takes a lot to produce quality music and Nobantu Msweli has proved to be just worth her salt after releasing her debut single ‘Tell Me’.
Her passion for music and vocal performances has landed this rising star in New York where she pursued a degree from the College of Performing Arts at The New School, in the United States.
This reporter interviewed Msweli who shared her life, musical journey and future goals with this publication.
Msweli revealed her single ‘Tell Me’ was recorded in New York.
“My single ‘Tell Me’ was recorded and produced in Brooklyn, New York, where I am currently based. It was inspired by a rough heartbreak I experienced.
“I moved to New York to pursue a degree in music where I majored in jazz and contemporary music. I have enjoyed my growth and milestones within the music industry and have performed at a number of venues including Madison Square Garden, The Bowery Ballroom, Sound of Brazil and Gold Sounds Bar,” said Msweli.
The musician further mentioned she was exposed to a lot of art and music growing up which inspired her.
“I have very strong roots in Eswatini as I am from Vuvulane. I have always had love for music and art from a very young age as I was surrounded by a lot of it. My cousin, Khulekani Msweli, is a very artistic person and I drew a lot of inspiration from seeing him take on his passion in the arts as he studied abroad as well.
“I love Eswatini, it is my second home and it is where I learned to love and respect- as well as being cultured. I grew up in Johannesburg where I was very involved with singing at church and school choirs. I got my big break when I landed first place in ‘Battle of the High School Bands’,” said Msweli.
When asked about her future aspirations, the musician revealed she was planning on making more music and going international.
“I want to release more music and be an international performing artist and just let the music take me everywhere,” said the musician.
Msweli further advised aspiring musicians to study music to improve the quality of the content. “Studying music has not only helped me understand music but has also helped me broaden my networks, make new connections and most importantly pick up new skills,” said Msweli.
