MBABANE-The Woman Farmer Foundation is moving with the times as it recently finished training over 100 farmers under its new theme, Climate Smart Agriculture.
The project began in September last year and saw 100 farmers trained in rice production at Ntfonjeni.
The Women’s Coalition Project Coordinator Mphumalanga Zwane revealed that the training covered a wide range of topics.
“The most important one is climate change because we need to find new ways to navigate the climate for better yields or production not to be affected. This is a must-know for every farmer right now.
“The training has been on since September last year and we have already covered topics like planning, budgeting, fieldwork practice, demo plots and we have also given out seedlings to test their knowledge and also keep track of their growth and profit,” said Zwane.
Zwane further revealed that there were more women farmers than men.
“There are 110 farmers under this scheme of which 52 are women. We work with the International Trade Centre (ITC), Sisimo Multipurpose Cooperative, and Mavulandlela Farming Cooperatives under the foundation,” said Zwane.
