MBABANE – A staggering 50 358 emaSwati registered yesterday, bringing the total of people who have registered for the 2023 General Elections to 526 075.
Initially, yesterday was expected to be the last day of registration but the date has been extended to Sunday evening. By close of business on Tuesday, 475 717 people had registered.
The figures were confirmed by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Communications Officer, Mbonisi Bhembe.
There were 283 736 females and 242 339 males who had registered by close of business yesterday.
EBC Deputy Chairman Sipho Tembe, said the extension was commanded by His Majesty King Mswati III.
“It has pleased His Majesty to command EBC to extend the registration deadline to Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 6pm.
“It is the commission’s hope that Emaswati take advantage of this extension to register in numbers young and old as they have already done so in the initial registration period. Ngete ngasala sakha live letfu,” he said.
