Malkerns- Permaculture is an agricultural system or method that seeks to integrate human activity with natural surroundings so as to create highly efficient self-sustaining ecosystems. It offers high output (yield) while producing little to no waste to land and it is can be applied to everything from our gardens to our communities and also ourselves.
Permaculture is based on 3 ethical standards: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share thus only organic methods are used to achieve this as well as steering clear of herbicides, pesticides and GMO’s.
The EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Dessislava Choumelova, paid a visit to Guba Permaculture Education Centre in Malkerns, which is an organisation that trains youth and farmers in designing low-carbon, highly productive human, and environmental systems. Ambassador Choumelova was happy to see EU support for green, inclusive and sustainable recovery of Eswatini channelled through new skills and knowledge.
Guba is a member of the International Trade Centre Alliances 4 Action network under an EU funded project for small farmers and agri-businesses in Eswatini. They connect sustainable farmers with sustainable food brands in Eswatini.
ITC’s National Coordinator in Eswatini, Musa Maseko, said this was a perfect example of the Alliances for Action value chain matrix.
