MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini calls for the peaceful celebrations of the Easter holidays.
Dlamini pleads with Emaswati to take care of themselves and the country’s tourists during the holidays, which begin tomorrow (March 29, 2024). The Premier said this was a time when Emaswati commemorated the death of Jesus Christ.
He said Government encouraged Emaswati to keep commemorating such holidays because they were very important, especially in the lives of Christians. The Easter holidays are expected to begin tomorrow and end on Monday (April 1, 2024).
The Easter holidays usually start on a Friday and end on a Monday, with a weekend in between. The dates of these holidays vary between the years. With Fridays and Mondays being holidays, these holidays present a long weekend, bringing excitement to many people around the world, especially the workers, who usually have four days to rest.
Some people use these days to worship God, while other people use these days to entertain themselves in many ways. This year’s Easter holidays, for example, have come with many opportunities for Emaswati to entertain themselves, with seven South African artists set to perform in this country from today.
However, some end up being irresponsible as they drink alcoholic beverages. Among those who drink are people who then drive different kinds of vehicles, causing accidents on the road, usually leading to the loss of lives.
It was for this reason why Government Ministries have come up with different activities aimed at ensuring safe Easter holidays. This was done more so because in 2022, there were only two people who reportedly died during Easter holidays. However, in 2023, it was disastrous because around 18 people died. This was in the context of 216 people who died due to road accidents in 2022 and around 222 died due to road accidents in 2023
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport on Monday (March 25, 2024) embarked on a campaign to ensure the safety of people in Eswatini. The launch of the campaign was led by Minister for Public Works and Transport Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe.
Members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service on yesterday (March 27, 2024) held a prayer, pleading with the Almighty to intervene and help in eradicating any accidents that could lead to loss of life, especially during the Easter holidays. Minister for Health Mduduzi Matsebula today (March 28, 2024) announced that health practitioners were on high alert, ready to assist anyone who could have health complications during the holidays.
