MBABANE – The newly appointed Prime Minister, Russell Mmiso Dlamini, is now officially on Facebook!

The Prime Minister joined the second-most used social media platform (after Whatsapp), soon after meeting with the Government’s Communication Office yesterday.

Speaking to the public about the page, the Prime Minister promised Emaswati that they will be getting direct updates from him through the page.

“We will be using this page to bring important reports, as well as to connect with the whole nation of Emaswati,” said the Prime Minister on his first official post.

The Prime Minister expressed that he was looking forward to engaging with Emaswati directly on his official Facebook page.

The page name is Russell Mmiso Dlamini, and Emaswati can find it by following the official Eswatini Government page on Facebook, which can be identified with a blue verification checkmark.

This move by the Prime Minister aligns with the country’s move towards more dialogue and civic engagement at all levels, as cited by His Majesty King Mswati III when encouraging Emaswati to collaborate towards solutions at the recent Sibaya People’s Parliament.

His Excellency, Russel Mmiso Dlamini, is the first Eswatini Prime Minister to have a dedicated social media page to directly engage with the public online. He joins other Government departments which have been using social media to effectively engage with Emaswati through online education and social engagement – these include the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

About 313,000 Emaswati will now have direct access to communicate with the Prime Minister, as data published in Meta’s advertising resources indicates that Facebook had 313,900 users in early 2023.
