PRIME MINISTER RETURNS FROM AU SUMMIT

MBABANE – Prime Minister Sipho Cleopas Dlamini updated the nation on the African Union’s agenda for the year when he returned from the 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly for Heads of State & Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he was representing His Majesty King Mswati III.

The Prime Minister held a press conference in his offices this morning, where he addressed the nation on the outcomes of the summit. The Prime Minister began by highlighting Eswatini’s philosophy in working with the African Union.

“The Kingdom of Eswatini is an active participant in the African Union business & is always looking at ways & means at how the African experience can augment our development model & strategies.” remarked the Prime Minister. He went on to discuss the African Union theme for the year.

“In the same summit, the theme of the Year was launched, “Strengthening resilience in nutrition & food security on the African continent: Strengthening agro-food systems, health & social protection systems for the acceleration of human, social & economic capital development.”

The Prime Minister also updated the nation on the 2022 leadership of the African Union, saying “In compliance with the culture of the Union, a new Chairperson took charge of the Year 2022. H.E President Macky Sall of Senegal was elected as Chairperson.”

The Prime Minister returned from the 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly for Heads of State & Government held in Addis Ababa this morning (8 February), and delivered his speech soon after touching down.
