MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini expressed his commitment to collaborate with World Vision Eswatini and other partners to ensure universal access to water for communities served by the organisation.
“This flagship project is the way to go because other water schemes have been tried before, but this model is the most sustainable,” said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Government’s support for the initiative and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the organisation and its partners in improving the lives of the people of Eswatini.
The Prime Minister’s statement came after a tour of the Mpolonjeni Water Project, which was implemented by World Vision in partnership with Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC). The project, which cost over E20 million (approximately USD1.1 million), is aimed at providing clean and reliable water to communities in the area.
EWSC provided technical support and expertise during the construction of the Mpolonjeni Water Project, and will also be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the system after the project is completed. The community members will be paying reduced monthly tariffs to EWSC for their water supply. The partnership between the corporation and the community is aimed at ensuring sustainable water provision in the area.
The Prime Minister stated that the model implemented in Mpolonjeni should be replicated in other communities across the country, to ensure that all citizens have access to clean and reliable water. He also reiterated Government’s commitment to working with World Vision in other communities where the organisation operates, to improve the quality of life for the people of Eswatini.
