MBABANE – The Ministry of Education has began training headteachers in the Kingdom on how to implement Competency Based Education. This skills based education has already began implementation in primary schools.

The training was held at Mater Dolorosa High School in Mbabane today. Speaking during the training, Ewart Ndlangamandla said “we believe these subjects will develop the country. It’s not necessary that a child should do arts for themselves as a profession – you can be a Siswati teacher and be able to do arts on the side for which will develop you as a person. We’ve seen people be singers to make money on the side of their main occupation. We believe that teaching these subjects will improve the skills of the learners.”

Ndlangamandla added that it is important to help pupils to hone their competencies such that they have the confidence to carry on professionally with it. The Ministry of Education plans to train all the principals in the country to ensure that teachers have a clear way to implement the competency based education.
