MBABANE – Back on the roads!
Following the decision by public transport owners to make transport services available in the Mbabane-Manzini corridors, buses, mini-buses and kombis have been reported to be back on the streets.
According to a statement sent by the Government of Eswatini this morning, they withdrew their buses which they deployed to the Mbabane and Manzini bus ranks.
“This is due to the decision of public transport owners to make transport services available in the two respective towns.
“Government has further urged those public operators who have still parked their vehicles to release them in order to service the nation across the country without prejudice and compromise,” read the statement.
Yesterday, emaSwati were being ferried by government buses in the Manzini-Mbabane-Nhlangano corridors. The buses were escorted by members of the OSSU, to ensure the public’s safety.
This exercise was endorsed by Deputy Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku who did rounds on the buses, conversing with passengers.
Yesterday morning, Government Spokesperson Alpheus Nxumalo announced that government has provided two buses to ferry the working class, pupils, and the public in the Mbabane-Manzini corridor.
The announcement by the spokesperson follows the scarcity of transport in the country, following the transport associations committing to a stand-off today and tomorrow.
When sought for comment, Nxumalo said the public could board on the buses at the Mbabane and Manzini bus ranks.
