MBABANE– Local rapper ‘Bluujay’ has been on an incredible run leading up to the release of his debut album which dropped today.

The Mbabane-bred MC released his debut album a few weeks after winning a rap battle that saw him take the top spot. As part of his reward, Bluujay will be gracing the Bushfire stage this year, which will be his first time performing at the world-class festival.

Speaking about the album, Bluujay (real name Mnqobi Khumalo) said he is excited to take it to all of Eswatini’s favorite venues to recite these songs because they mean so much to him.

The nine-track hip-hop album, which is called ‘’Childish Dreams’, was inspired by the way Emaswati view the music industry.

“The inspiration behind the project was nothing but the fact that I live in a society that largely views the art industry as nothing but an industry full of hobbies and not a career-building industry. So my dreams sounded (and still sound) a bit childish to most people. This project speaks to the fact that these “childish” dreams I have are very real and valid to me,’ said the rapper.

In addition to performing at Bushfire, Bluujay will be opening for DJ Tira during his cider launch today at the Xchange in Ngwane Park, Manzini. According to Bluujay, winning the rap battle has been a real confidence boost for him as he gets these great performing platforms.

“It gave me the validation I wanted because at times I would feel like there’s nothing special about what I do. Winning the rap battle made me believe that my talent is an actual part of my reality. This is not to say that I think I’m better than every other rapper, but I now know that when every other talented rapper brings something to the table, I’ll also bring something that won’t be overlooked,” said Bluujay. Childish Dreams was produced primarily by Chaboy and Illuminous, and distributed under XLR Media’s XLR Publishing company. It is currently available on digital platforms.
