MBABANE- Help has arrived!
Mpolonjeni residents, who had their homes destroyed by the heavy storm last year on Christmas Day, have received tarpaulins from the Baphalali Red Cross Society.
The tarpaulins are meant to cover the destroyed roofs which have been leaking whilst they await repairs.
A total number of 205 homes were left devastated by this natural phenomenon.
Speaking on Kusile Breakfast Show, Red Cross Society Health Services Manager Elliot Jele said that 123 homes have been given tarpaulins to cover their roofs so that rain did not get inside.
“Not everyone received the tarpaulins because others let the society know they would be able to make a plan on fixing their roofs and others really needed help that was very urgent.
“We gave out 27 sheets of tarpaulins to those that needed the help urgently. We are still looking to get assistance from the National Disaster Management Agency and we have also reported to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office to assist us with coming up with a strategy to help the residents,” said Jele.
Mpolonjeni residents had nothing but words of praise for the assistance from the Red Cross Society.
“The tarpaulin has been helpful because it covers the area where the roof was destroyed.
“It is a huge set back because almost all the items inside the house were rained on and ruined because there were leaks everywhere,” said the first resident.
“Rain does not enter the room I sleep in any more thanks to the sail. We are very grateful and ask that you assist us with corrugated iron to roof our houses and also windows which were also destroyed,” said another resident.
Mpolonjeni residents are also appealing for assistance from the nation at large and those who wish to assist can do so through the Red Cross Society.
