MBABANE – Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane has encouraged members of the public to report corruption cases, now that the task team is in place.
Prince Simelane said this today at Cabinet Offices in Mbabane, when the Anti-Corruption Task Team was launched by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini. The Minister praised the Prime Minister for swiftly responding to the directive issued by His Majesty the King, who called for the arrest of individuals found to be corrupt.
The Minister mentioned that the King was also concerned that corruption was hindering the progress of the country. He reminded the nation that the King was making this call in response to what was raised by Emaswati during Sibaya. According to the Minister, Emaswati stated that they were not able to progress in life because there was too much corruption in the country.
Prince Simelane expressed hope that the cases would now be addressed because the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had a commissioner who was going to ensure that the unit was functional. He said Acting ACC Commissioner Maphevu Mkhatshwa was there to ensure that corruption cases were investigated and forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for prosecution.
He said people have been complaining that the ACC was not functioning very well, as there was no commissioner. He hoped that the presence of the commissioner would now bring an improvement in addressing issues of corruption in the country.
